Stream & Wetland Assessments
Solving problems on dynamic stream and river systems requires a multidisciplinary approach. To help accomplish this, Wildhorse Riverworks, Inc. uses the Riverworks Rapid Assessment System (RRAS)tm developed by Trout Headwaters, Inc. in Livingston, Montana.
Riverworks Rapid Assessment System (RRAS™) is a compact, handheld hardware and software package that is a cost-effective solution for ecological assessment, reconnaissance, inspection and monitoring. RRAS™ seamlessly integrates the latest digital camera and GPS technologies with a state-of-the-art waterproof, rugged handheld field computer.
Using the RRAS, WRI professionals can create scientifically-valid, repeatable and defensible baseline assessments for projects of all sizes. At WRI, we use the handheld field unit, RRAS Stream™, to efficiently document site-specific location data; record multiple ecological condition parameters; input channel survey data; describe existing disturbances and note observed problems. This saves time which makes it more cost effective for our clients. We use RRAS for baseline stream assessments, ecological reconnaissance, watershed conservation, project inspection, water resource inventories, TMDL development, restoration or enhancement, bank stabilization, post-project monitoring and evaluation, and trend monitoring.
